ESL Semestral Program

The objective of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop oral and written Spanish skills, and to learn about the Caribbean society, economy, and culture. This objective will be achieved through university courses, internships, and community and social services which place students directly within the mainstream of Dominican society.

The academic program is 14-16 weeks long for both the fall and spring semesters, and 8 weeks for the summer semester. Spanish courses are organized into five levels. For students without knowledge of Spanish as a Second Language or those with basic, intermediate or otherwise, three to nine credits will be offered. (Each credit is equivalent to 15 hours of class). Students that select nine credits of Spanish can expect 135 hours of classroom study for one semester, with additional time for personal study, language practices, and social activities.

The International Students program involves Dominican and Caribbean Culture, African Heritage and Caribbean Literature which will be taught in English or Spanish. All courses are taken at PUCMM-RSTA and are organized in small groups.

Students with advanced Spanish level will be offered a modified program which will allow them to attend a selection of regular university courses over the full semester. Regular university courses are recommended to international students with enough knowledge of Spanish.
